WILMA CATHERINE (MACINNES) BURKE

Wilma Catherine (Macinnes) Burke

Funeral service for the late Wilma Catherine (MacInnes) Burke, 100, Bailey's Brook, Pictou County, was held October 30 in St. Mary’s Church, Lismore, with Father Colin MacKinnon officiating, assisted by her son, Reverend Sander Burke. Burial was in Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bailey’s Brook.      

Mrs. Burke died October 26, 2019, in R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home. 

Readers at the funeral Mass were granddaughters Ashley Jackson, Erin Burke and Louise MacKinnon. Her great-grandchildren presented the offertory gifts. Eucharistic minister was Fiona MacLean. Music was provided by organist Phylis MacGrath, daughter Olga Langille, daughter Nadine MacInnis, niece Alyson MacDonald, St. Mary’s Choir, pipers Aidan Fulmore and Oakley MacLean.     

Pallbearers were grandsons Conrad Burke, Alfred Burke, Jr., Chuck MacDonald, Andrew MacInnis, David Langille and Patrick MacDougall.     

She was the daughter of a late Colin and Mamie (MacGillivray) MacInnes. She raised 13 children, enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and was a woman of strong faith.  She had an unfailing wit that she maintained right up to her final hours.     

She is survived by five daughters, Gail (John) MacKinnon, Truro; Christene MacDougall, Bailey’s Brook; Olga (Gareth) Langille, Truro; Nadine (Colin) MacInnis, Arisaig; Shawna (John) Somers, Halifax; two sons, Alfred (Mary), Sander (Minnie), both of Bailey’s Brook; 24 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Joe MacDougall; two daughters-in-law, Barbara Doyle; Karen Burke; 10 step-grandchildren; 17 great-step-grandchildren; two great-great-step-grandchildren; brother, Collie R.; stepbrother, Jimmy Harpell; numerous nieces and nephews.     

She was predeceased by her husband, Fred; four sons, Rodrick, Donald, Conrad, Max; two daughters, Estelle MacDonald, Lenore MacDougall; two sons-in-law, Dan MacDougall; Charlie MacDonald; seven siblings, Goldie MacLean (Charlie), Edna Chisholm (Archie), Gussie, Carmie MacDonald (Dougall); two sisters, in infancy; one brother, in infancy; sister-in-law, Clare MacInnes; stepbrother, Jerry Harpell.     

Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Cemetery Fund.
