Yvonne Dufour

Funeral service for the late Yvonne (Crispo) Dufour, 89, Dartmouth, was held December 17 in St. Paul’s Church, Havre Boucher, with Father Bill Crispo officiating, assisted by Father Allan MacPhie and Father Gary MacPherson. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. Dufour died December 14, 2019, in Bissett Court Retirement Home, Dartmouth.        

Readers at the funeral Mass were Katie Dufour and Michel Ouellette. Music was provided by Tyrus Wallace.     

Pallbearers were Marc Ouellette, Jeffrey Dufour, Michel Ouellette, Robert MacLennan, Katie Dufour and Raymond Dufour.

Born October 16, 1930, in Havre Boucher, Antigonish County, she was a daughter of the late Mark and Beatrice (King) Crispo. She graduated as an R.N. from St. Martha’s School of Nursing, Antigonish, in 1952 and began her nursing career in New York City shortly afterwards.  She married Fernand Dufour in 1955. She worked in many hospitals in Quebec and Nova Scotia and, notably, Montreal’s Institute of Cardiology, where she headed the nursing team for the first heart recipient in Canada. She retired from the Nova Scotia Hospital in Dartmouth after 15 years of service. She spent most of her time travelling, entertaining, cooking, sewing and listening to music.

She is survived by three children, Yvon (Lynda Swinemar), Dartmouth; Gina (Marc) Ouellette, Laval, Quebec; Arlene Bujold, Elliott Lake, Ontario; six grandchildren, Katie, Jeffrey, Sarah, Andre, Julie Anne, Michel; two great-grandchildren, Alina, Marty; five sisters, Myrtle, Marie, Leola Connor, Leonie Almeda, Dolores (Lloyd Leblanc); brother, Father William ‘Bill’ Crispo; many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Fernand;  two brothers, James, Leon; sister, Theresa Marko; three brothers-in-law, Paul Almeda, Blake Connor, John Marko; son-in-law Jerry Bujold.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
