The Nova Scotia House of Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution to recognize September as Nova Scotia Polish Heritage Month, starting in 2020. The month of September has several important anniversaries connected to Polish Nova Scotians.

We were pleased to work on this initiative with MLA Derek Mombourquette (Sydney-Whitney Pier), who introduced the resolution in the House, as well as staff in the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage.

Thanks as well to the other member organizations of the Atlantic Canada District of the Canadian Polish Congress for their collaboration.

The newly-recognized Nova Scotia Polish Heritage Month will be a springboard for additional projects, positive inter-cultural sharing and educational resources for schools.

The resolution cited the historic and contemporary contributions of Polish Nova Scotians, on Cape Breton Island and the mainland.

We are proud to be part of diverse and welcoming communities.

Thank you to all who worked to make this happen. Dziękujemy!

President, St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society
