MONCTON, N.B. - The Antigonish Bantam ‘A’ female Bulldogs went a perfect 5-0, included not giving a goal in round-robin play, to capture gold at the Dairy Queen Female Hockey Tournament, Jan. 3 to 6, in the Moncton area.
In the final versus Montague, P.E.I., the Bulldogs won 7-2 led by Julia MacDonald’s three goals.
Kaylee Connors, Brooklyn Carter, Kaylee Nash and Grace MacDougall also scored for Antigonish while player of the game was Mairinn Kennedy.
In the semi-final, the Bulldogs defeated local team, the Moncton Stars, by the score of 6-2.
MacDonald and player of the game Jaelyn Rovers each scored twice in the contest while Lauren Keats and Isabel Lawrence had the other goals for the Bulldogs.
On their way to the semi-final, the Bulldogs recorded shutout victories over Metro West Force White (6-0), Tyne Valley, P.E.I. (4-0) and another local entry, the Dieppe Panthers, 11-0.
Scoring versus the Force were player of the game Jia Rennie, Keats, Lawrence, MacDonald, Haley Richards and Kara Beaton.
In the win over Tyne Valley, Rovers scored twice while player of the game Mary Beth Brophy and Lauren Starzomski added a goal each.
Player of the game Keats had the hat-trick versus the Panthers while Rovers and Starzomski each had two goals and singles came of the sticks of Kennedy, MacDonald, Connors and Alexis MacDougall.
Gracie Chisholm picked up all three shutouts in net for the Bulldogs and was strong throughout the tournament.
