ANTIGONISH, N.S. — The Nova Scotia 55 + Games are only two weeks away (Aug. 1 to 3) and organizers wouldn’t mind seeing a few more folks offer to volunteer.
Speaking after receiving a diamond sponsorship contribution from Steve Smith of The Maples: Supportive Living, July 10, co-chair Diane Roberts said they would be “very grateful” to anyone who put his or her name forward.
“Nobody is expected to volunteer for the whole three days. If they want to they’re more than welcome, but we would just be happy with whatever time they have,” the veteran Town of Antigonish councillor said.
Volunteer forms can be found on the event’s website (antigonish55plusgames2019.ca) or can be picked up from Antigonish town hall (main office or recreation department office) or the Municipality of the County of Antigonish building on Beech Hill Road.

“The form has specific hours, so you can fill out whatever you want to do,” Vaughn Chisholm, the other co-chair of the event and a long-time councillor for Antigonish County, said.
Roberts added that volunteers can select a particular event as well; one they are familiar with or would just like to be involved in.
“Diane Roberts and Vaughn Chisholm have chaired the committee from the beginning and we’ll all see the benefits [of the 55 + Games] because they’ve worked very hard on this project,” Antigonish Mayor Laurie Boucher said.
“We are looking forward to seeing all the participants in our town and county during the event.”
There is a curling portion of the games and it will be held in October (17 to 19) at the Highlander Curling Club in St. Andrews.
