Another local player will be back with HFX Wanderes FC next year.
Midfielder Scott Firth re-signed with the Canadian Premier League team on Tuesday, two weeks after fellow Haligonian Christian Oxner confirmed he will return for a second season in goal.
“It feels really good that the club has the confidence in me for a second year and I’m glad to get started next season with the team,” Firth said in a news release.
“I’ve said it before but it’s a dream come true being able to play in front of the Halifax fans. Stepping onto the field was amazing last season and I hope for the same energy this year."
Firth, 18, was the youngest player on the team this past season and appeared in eight games, mostly off the bench.
“When he was introduced into games he did not look out of place and his pass percentage was extremely high, so he’s done quite well,” Wanderers head coach Stephen Hart said in a news release.
“Scott is young and improving all the time and he is fantastic in the dressing room and he has shown a willingness to learn."
Striker Akeem Garcia and midgielder Andre Rampersad are the two other players already re-signed and striker Cory Bent and defender Jake Ruby were selected in last week's CPL U-SPORTS draft.
