Capers' Waters named U Sports male athlete of the week

SYDNEY, N.S. — Cape Breton Capers striker Charlie Waters was named the U Sports male athlete of the week on Wednesday.

The Blackpool, U.K., native scored the game-winning goal for the Capers in their semifinal game in the Atlantic University Sport championship against Saint Mary's on Nov. 1, before adding an insurance goal in Cape Breton's 2-0 overtime victory over St. Francis Xavier in the AUS championship game in Sydney.

Waters was named the AUS playoff most valuable player, helping lead the Capers to their fourth straight league title.

Justine Pelletier of Laval was named the U Sports female athlete of the week. Pelletier plays rugby.

Alliyah Rowe of the Cape Breton Capers was also nominated for U Sports female athlete of the week honours.
