Former Eagles property dealt on final day of QMJHL trade period

SYDNEY, N.S. — A pair of former Cape Breton Eagles property found new homes during the final day of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League trade period on Monday.

Defenceman Ryan MacLellan of Antigonish was traded from the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies to the Moncton Wildcats for a seventh-round pick at the 2020 QMJHL Entry Draft.

MacLellan, 19, won a Memorial Cup championship with the Huskies last season and has recorded six goals and 13 assists in 117 career major junior games.

MacLellan, a fourth-round pick by Cape Breton in 2016, joins fellow Cape Breton West Islanders alumni Jacob Stewart, Jacob Hubson and Sean Stewart, all of Antigonish, on the Wildcats roster.

In other trade deadline news, the Saint John Sea Dogs shipped goaltender Tommy DaSilva to the Gatineau Olympiques for a 10th-round pick at the 2022 QMJHL Entry Draft.

DaSilva, who was traded by Cape Breton in the second-round in 2017, has appeared in 19 career major junior games, all with the Sea Dogs, and has a 1-11-0-0 record along with a 7.02 goals-against-average and a .829 save percentage.
