PORT HOOD, N.S. — Lewis Taylor and James Beaton powered the offense to lead the Cape Breton West Islanders to a 6-5 win over the Sydney Mitsubishi Rush in Nova Scotia Eastlink Major Midget Hockey League action in Port Hood.

Taylor and Beaton both recorded a pair of goals and an assist in front of the hometown fans at the Al MacInnis Sports Centre on Thursday.

Blake Hadley and Daniel LeBlanc also found the back of the net for the Islanders (5-16-0-0)

Trey Sturge had two goals and an assist, while Nick Mahar fired home two markers. Jake Edwards added a single marker for the Rush (4-17-1-0).


Kenzie MacPhail made 22 saves for Cape Breton West. Jack Cashen turned aside 25 of 31 shots for Sydney.

Cape Breton West and Sydney will meet again on Saturday when they Rush host the Islanders at 7 p.m. at the Membertou Sport and Wellness Centre.
