ANTIGONISH, N.S. — Former Cape Breton West Islander and Strait Pirate Floyd MacDonald was the overtime hero as the Pleasantdale Panthers took a commanding 3-1 lead in the Antigonish Rural League finals, versus the Heatherton Warriors, with a 4-3 victory April 12.
MacDonald added an assist in the contest while Brandon Verge, Travis King and Brennan Fraser picked up the other goals for Pleasantdale.
Ricky Bowie, Kory Tate and Dylan MacLean answered for the Warriors who now find themselves playing for their playoff lives.
The journey begins, or ends, this Saturday (April 20) evening as the teams clash in game five of the finals; a 7 p.m. puck drop at the Antigonish Arena.
If Heatherton can win that night, game six would be the following night (April 21) at the arena, with the same start time.
If the Warriors manage to win both games over the weekend, a winner-take-all game seven would be Saturday, April 27, at the arena; again, a 7 p.m. puck-drop.
Pleasantdale’s Garrett Lambke continues to lead the playoff point parade with 18 (10 goals, eight assists) in eight games. Verge is one off the lead (nine goals, eight assists) while Bowie sits third (eight goals, six assists), four off of Lambke’s pace.
