The host Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional Royals edged the Avon View Avalanche of Windsor 61-57 Friday afternoon in the opening game of the Mabel Arsenault Memorial Robertson Electrical Classic girls' basketball tourament in Antigonish.
The six-team, two-division tournament continues Friday and Saturday.
The Royals (1-0) will be back in action Friday, at 6 p.m., versus the Sackville Kingfishers.
The Avalanche will return to the court Saturday, at 9 a.m, against the same Kingfishers, in the Royals Division.
The Mabel Division includes the CEC Cougars, Riverview Royals and Sir John A. Macdonald Flames.
The championship game is set for Saturday at 5 p.m.
