Cabot Tower and the Confederation Building in St. John’s will be among major landmarks, stadiums and iconic buildings around the world lighting up in red in a global display of unity today and Saturday as part of the Special Olympics’ 50th anniversary celebration.
“The Global Day of Inclusion on Saturday … will kick off a year of celebrations we work to creating a world where all individuals are recognized – and included,” said Special Olympics Newfoundland & Labrador executive director Trish Williams.
More than 225 landmarks worldwide will participate in the Light Up for Inclusion initiative, creating a global display of tolerance, respect and celebration of difference.
Other participating sites include the Empire State Building in New York, Sydney Opera House in Australia and Niagara Falls.
In support of Special Olympics in Canada, Tim Horton’s will be selling a Special Olympics donut on Saturday.
