Warriors and Acadians strike first in AGR playoffs

ANTIGONISH, N.S. - The AGR playoffs began Aug. 22 with the Heatherton Warriors squeaking by the Carmie MacInnis Insurance St. Joseph’s Chiefs 7-6, and the Pomquet Acadians, on the strength of no-hit pitching by Donnelly Archibald, shutting out the St. Andrew Flyers 7-0. 

The winning pitcher for the Warriors was Adam Anderson who recorded 10 strikeouts.

Offensively, Heatherton was led by Trent Deyoung who stroked a double and single while picking up two RBIs. Josh Wood had a triple and two RBIs while Alex Chisholm had a double and single and Anderson helped his own cause with a single and two RBIs.

Jarrod Kennedy took the loss for the Chiefs on the mound and, offensively, Mitchel Bowman had a huge game for St. Joseph’s with a homerun and three singles.

Spencer Barron had a double and two RBIs while Arnold Murphy and Logan Kennedy each contributed a double, single and RBI.

For Pomquet, Archibald no only starred on the mound he did at the plate as well with a single and two RBIs. Brian Gilfoy had two singles and two RBIs while Cad O’Connor picked up two RBIs on a single and Jaiden Doiron had a single and RBI.

Lawrence MacPherson took the loss on the slab for the Flyers.

Action continues Friday night with Heatherton versus Pomquet and St. Joseph’s taking on St. Andrews.
