Wildcats hand Mooseheads another setback

Make it three losses in the past four games for the Halifax Mooseheads.
The Moncton Wildcats were the latest opponent to get the best of the Mooseheads, beating them 3-2 in front of 6,769 fans at the Avenir Centre in Moncton on Saturday.
First-period goals from Jakob Pelletier and Jacob Hudson put the Wildcats ahead 2-0 and the Mooseheads had to chase the game the rest of the night. They cut Moncton's lead to one goal two different times but couldn't come all the way back.
Jordan Spence also scored for Moncton and Samuel Asselin and Arnaud Durandeau had the Halifax goals. Asselin leads the QMJHL with 48 goals.
Alexis Gravel stopped 22 shots for Halifax and Francis Leclerc made 30 saves for Moncton.
Winger Ostap Safin and defenceman Jocktan Chainey returned to the Halifax lineup after missing extended periods with injuries. But just as those two came back, winger Raphael Lavoie went down. He left the game early with an upper body injury and did not return.
The loss leaves the Mooseheads (46-13-2-1) three points behind the Baie-Comeau Drakkar for first place in the Eastern Conference. The Drakkar have played one more game but the season is quickly coming to a close.
The Mooseheads wrap up their road trip on Sunday afternoon against the Saint John Sea Dogs. Their final three games of the regular season are all at home next week. The finale is on Saturday against the Charlottetown Islanders.
Islanders 3, Screaming Eagles 1: In Sydney, Zachary Beauregard snapped a 1-1 tie with less than seven minutes left in the third period.
Hunter Drew also scored for Charlottetown and Nikita Alexandrov clinched the win with an empty-netter. Derek Gentile was the Cape Breton scorer.
Matthew Welsh finished with 28 saves for the Islanders and Kevin Mandolese stopped 23 shots for the Screaming Eagles.
The win moves the Islanders three points ahead of the Screaming Eagles in the race for fifth place in the Eastern Conference.
Notes: Forwards Maxim Trepanier (concussion) and Cole Stewart (shoulder) did not play for Halifax because of injuries and Alexis Sansfacon, Denis Toner and Marcel Barinka were scratched. ... The Drummondville Voltigeurs beat the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 2-1 on Friday night, snapping the Huskies' 25-game winning streak. The run tied the QMJHL record set by the Sorel Eperviers in 1973-74. The Huskies still have a chance to set the all-time mark for wins in a single season. They have 56 with three games left to play and the record is 58, held by four teams including the 2012-13 Mooseheads.
