Xavier TaeKwondo athlete Aidan MacDonald captured gold at the Canada Open TaeKwondo championships last weekend in Toronto.
MacDonald was competing in the bantamweight class for 12 to 14 year olds.
She is the 2012 national silver medalist and the 2011 national bronze medalist.
The win garnered her a position on the Canadian team that will compete in the 2013 Pan American championships in Mexico in November.
MacDonald opened the Canadian Open with a 7-6 victory over Emily Lee from Ontario. She followed up with a 6-3 win in overtime against Stephanie Lo, Ontario, and secured the gold medal with a 6-3 win over American Sydney Stofanoff.
Rebecca MacDonald won the 12 to 14-year-old red belt division, winning her final match 9-4 against an opponent from Ontario, while Katy-Sue Hayne placed fifth in the black belt light weight division.
Hayne, ranked eighth entering the tournament, opened with an 11-4 win over her American opponent, before dropping her second match 9-4 to a competitor from Brazil.
