Funeral service for the late Ambrose G. Bowles, 93, Lower Springfield, was held July 19 in St. Andrew’s Church, St. Andrews, with Father Andrew Gillies officiating, assisted by Fathers Charlie Cameron, Gary MacPherson, Daniel MacDonald, Elliot O’Neil and Deacon Art Riley. Burial was in South River Cemetery. Mr. Bowles died July 14, 2018, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Readers at the funeral Mass were Erma Bowles, Joan Foote and Roberta Rogers. Kim Bowles, Angela Bowles and Erma Bowles presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Margaret MacGregor MacDonald. Pallbearers were John MacDonald, Henry van de Wiel, Doug Grace, John Van den Heuvel, Frank MacDonald and Deny Van den Heuvel. Born in Alder River, he was the son of the late George and Mary Ann (MacDonald) Bowles. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Teresa, until her death, in 2004, and was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had a very deep spiritual faith that was evident in his involvement in St. Andrew’s Parish and his faithful visits to Ste. Anne De Beaupre every year for 38 years. He was a Second World War veteran and a member of Arras Branch 59 Royal Canadian Legion. He enjoyed the outdoors and spending time shearing his Christmas trees. He was a passionate Toronto Maple Leafs’ fan, good crib player and an amazing storyteller. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Erma, Springfield; five daughters, Madonna Hall, Calgary; Sandra (Jim) Graham, Coutts, Alta; Debbie (Bill) MacLellan, Cole Harbour; Darlene Bowles, Calgary; Angela (Glen) Rooney, Cole Harbour; two Carmen (Angela) Bowles, Lanark; Gerard (Kim) Bowles, Springfield; 10 grandchildren: Michael (Erika) Bowles; Stephanie Graham; Jared (Kelly), Justine Bowles; Jevin, Nikole MacLellan; Koulton, Abbey Bowles; Samantha, Jill Rooney; great-grandchild, Avia Langille Bowles. He was predeceased by his wife, Teresa (MacPherson); son, Donald; three brothers, Joe, Maurice, Donald; two sisters, Mary, Jennie; son-in-law, Don Hall.
